They are still here

Our land acknowledgement statement.

7group acknowledges the Indigenous nations who dwelled upon the lands we call home including the Susquehannock/Conestoga, Lenni Lenape/Delaware/Munsee, Ramapough, Seneca/Oneida/Cayuga (Haudenosaunee), Piscataway Conoy, Nanticoke, Shawnee, and others remembered by Mother Earth as the original peoples of these lands. We recognize our colonial history of broken treaties, slavery, and the countless injustices and cultural genocides committed by our ancestors against indigenous, maroon and all decedents of displaced peoples. We believe that cultures emerge from each particular place and that the land remembers. We commit to seeking truth and reconciliation with the Indigenous living cultures still surviving among us, with those whose ancestors were enslaved, and with the land itself as we humbly and respectfully seek to decolonize and indigenize ourselves to the places where we live, work, and play, and in so doing contribute to their, and our own, healing and evolution.

We support reparations and the return of stolen lands, recognizing that the cultures our ancestors tried to eliminate still exist and they continue to struggle to reclaim what was lost. Those living cultures deserve a voice, a presence and the agency to affect what happens to them, and our more than human kin.
